Who is required to make a tax declaration in Luxembourg?

A resident taxpayer is under the obligation to make a tax declaration when:

  • taxable income in the household exceeds EUR 100,000.00 per annum;
  • income is made up of 2 salaries, 1 salary and one or two pensions;
  • "other income" exceeds EUR 1,500.00 per annum.

A non resident may fill out a tax declaration if he/she meets the following criteria:

  • if drawing a salary in Luxembourg for more than 9 months within a tax year.
  • when more than 50% of earned income is received in Luxembourg.

N.B.: In order to benefit from the tax advantages under Luxembourg law, life insurance policies with a savings element must have a minimum term of 10 years.

Where can I hand in my completed tax declaration?

The tax authorities (Administration des Contribution Directes) automatically sends out tax declaration forms to taxpayers. Since 2009, you can also fill out and submit your tax declaration online via the ""MyGuichet"" platform - including supplementary declarations and supporting documents.
